How to Remove Themes From WordPress

posted On September 22, 2021

Steps of Removing A WordPress Theme

If you can access the administrator dashboard, you can easily remove a WordPress theme in WordPress. Firstly, you need to log into your dashboard in WordPress as an administrator. Then, you have to select ‘Appearance’ in the dashboard panel and then select ‘Themes.’ On the screen, you will find all installed themes on your WordPress site. Your active theme is the first theme on the list.

Next, you have to hover over the targeted theme you want to remove and select ‘Theme Details.’ You can’t remove your active theme. You have to activate another theme first if you’re going to remove your active theme. Now, in the present appearing window, you have to select the ‘Delete’ option in the bottom right region.

Now, you will notice a warning asking you for the final confirmation of removing the theme. You have to select ‘OK.’ In this way, you can remove the theme from the WordPress installation and server. If you mistakenly remove the wrong theme, there’s nothing to worry about. You can re-install the theme from the themes directory in WordPress or re-upload the theme from your backup.

Handling ‘Deletion Failed’ Error

When you have completed the steps mentioned above, you may see an error “Deletion failed, the theme requested does not exist.” This error usually occurs if WordPress fails to delete the theme’s all content. In this case, you need to delete the theme files by following the hosting panel method or the FTP method.

Themes play an important role in your WordPress site. It’s better to remember these steps of removing WordPress themes.
