How to Transfer Hosting to GoDaddy

posted On October 25, 2021

It often happens that a user having a hosting account somewhere wants to transfer it to GoDaddy. There are some simple steps for completing this process. However, this process is applicable only for shared hosting.

Setting up An Account

When you buy an account, you have to set it up. Then GoDaddy will know your planned domain for use. If you want to move your site between host accounts within GoDaddy’s system, you might have to delete the domain from an active account or change the primary domain name of the old account.

Downloading The Website

You don’t need this step if you have your website file’s copy. But if you don’t have the copy, you have to download the files’ copy from the current hosting provider. It’s important because there are various potential places for hosting, so it’s not possible for GoDaddy to document their procedures without a copy.

However, GoDaddy recommends having an FTP client. They also provide documentation about using the FTP client.

Uploading The Website

When you get the files, you have to transfer these from your local storage to your GoDaddy hosting account. An FTP client is useful for doing this. Also, there are other options for doing this.

Previewing The Website

After getting the content on the hosting account, it’s time to preview it to ensure it’s fine.

Making The Website Hosted with GoDaddy Live

If everything is fine, you can officially switch from the old host to GoDaddy by changing the DNS. DNS decides the specific server or hosting account, which is loaded by your domain name. The process is simple, and you can do it in two ways, which have different effects on the website – namely, the email. If you care about your present email configuration, you have to change only the primary IP address of your domain name.

If you don’t care about your present email configuration, you can just modify your nameservers, and all DNS settings will change after this. These changes may need up to two days to display internet-wide. When they do, the process ends. You have successfully transferred your hosting account.

It’s an easy and simple process to transfer hosting to GoDaddy. We hope you have understood the described steps properly.
