There are 9 simple steps to transfer web hosting from one company to another. Let’s check out these steps.
Signing Up to The New Hosting
Firstly, you have to identify the hosting provider to which you will sign up. Some of the good web hosts are Bluehost, DreamHost, A2 Hosting, etc.
Saving The Files of Your Website
Now you have to save your site’s files. You can download your site’s files with an FTP service. For saving the files, you have to create a file on the desktop. Then you have to download an FTP tool, such as FileZilla Client. You have to set up a new FTP account with the present hosting provider.
Then you have to link FileZilla up to the present hosting account. Lastly, you have to download files to your created folder.
Exporting The Database
If your website has a database, you have to export it. You have to open the phpMyAdmin app from the present hosting account.
Then you have to select the correct database from a list, select the ‘Export’ tab, and then select the ‘Go’ button. Then you have to find the downloaded SQL file and transfer it to the folder as your site files.
Setting Up A New Database
Now you have to create a blank database before importing it. You can create a new database from the section ‘MySQL Databases’ from the new hosting account.
Import The Database
To import the database, you have to go to the phpMyAdmin app from the section ‘Database’ in the new hosting account. Here, you will find all databases by selecting the ‘+’ button and selecting the new database. Now, you have to select the ‘Import’ tab, select the ‘
Choose File’ button, and then select the previously saved SQL file. You will see the file name. You have to select the button ‘Go’, and then the system will import your database.
Modifying The Website’s Files
Now you have to edit certain files’ codes to sync these up with your new database. Mainly, you have to edit the name, created user name, and the password. There are files like Joomla, Drupal, etc., which may need editing.
Uploading The Website’s Files
For uploading the website’s files, you have to set up an FTP account with the new hosting provider and sync FileZilla to the new hosting account. Then you have to upload the files to the new account.
Testing The Website and Update DNS Settings
Now you have to test your website. Different hosts handle this in different ways. Next, you have to update the DNS settings to point the domain DNS to the new host. There’s a DNS guide for further help.
